The Role Of Our Biofield

The biofield that extends around our bodies, plant life, animal life, trees and all living things has been an interesting topic to delve into. Sometimes called the aura. Being interested in all things to do with EMF, it is something that I’ve been interested in for a long time. What is it made up of? Does it interact with other biofields? What is the purpose? Do external EMFs affect the biofield? So many questions to get through, so let’s get into it.

First of all, how do we know a biofield exists?
The first attempt at evidence of this was with a type of photographic technology called a GDV camera (gas discharged visualisation) which can capture an image of energy around a living object. These cameras are bioelectrographic devices that capture the photon emissions from living tissues that creates a type of energy map. Corona discharges around a human hand was first observed in 1777 and lately over the last 100 years with our friend Tesla involved with gas discharge experiments photographing luminous images around objects. This also lead into electrophotography then into the now known Kirlian photography. This type of photography is misleadingly used as a device in the holistic world for demonstrating an aura.
What does this type of photography show?
Kirlian photography shows us a glow or coronal discharge around an object. In fact any object, organic or inanimate. It uses high voltages to ionise the air around the object thus producing a glow. Unfortunately that’s not really showing a biofield, it is simply a reaction of ionising the air around the object taking advantage of capacitive coupling which is simply energy jumping from one conductor to another. It looks fascinating, but is really just a fancy way to photograph ‘things’. In reality, Kirlian photography more accurately highlights a reaction to an induced physical electromagnetic effect and so doesn't represent a true footprint of biofield imagery.
What is a biofield?
A biofield in my view is the external presence of the aggregated electromagnetic energy broadcasting from a body. No doubt there are other subtle and metaphysical energies involved in the mix but they are harder to understand and measure, however they will exist and no doubt have a presence impacting on the whole.
Your own outward broadcasting electromagnetic presence will be comprised of many different sources. Inside our own internal matrix are lots of generators, convertors, storage areas and broadcasters of energy. We take in energy from many different sources (not just food but also water, air, sunlight, earthing etc), we store that energy, we convert it to other forms (electrical energy to heat for example), we generate energy (compression of bones and teeth is piezoelectric) and we also emit energy (biophysics researcher Fritz Albert Popp is recognised for discovering bio photon emissions from human, animal and plant life).
A biofield around a human body comprises of an electrical and a magnetic presence. Created from within and broadcasting out in all directions. All balanced and in proportion to the energy available at the point in time.
The biofield is made from many biological functions and properties such as:
Magnetic field from each of the trillions of mitochondria. The accumulation of mitochondria in he heart for example is measurable with an MCG or magnetocardiography and those in the brain are measurable using a MEG machine which is magnetocephalography.
And for electrical activity of the same EEG and ECG machines are used.
Many compounds within the body have relationships with magnetism. Melanin and oxygen for example are paramagnetic (the human brain is full of melanin as is the pineal gland). Many compounds can be paramagnetic, diamagnetic, ferromagnetic or ferrimagnetic (there are also other types). Magnetic fields will repel and attract around, compounds like these, atoms and other structures.
Magnetite found in human brains forms crystals which add to a magnetic effect giving us magneto reception.
Free negatively charged electrons with their own charge (from sunlight) flow through our bodies.
Positively charged protons also travel around our internal matrix.
Imagine what the electrical presence is of the activity of each neuron in the brain!
Also neura have been found the the heart too!
Piezo activity from bone movement will add to the electric field effect.
There are so many elements that contribute to our biofield presence it’s probably impossible to research and list them all but hopefully you get the idea.
Do other biofields interact with our biofields?
From a simple electrical standpoint, electric fields and magnetic fields, based on their source, structure and strength will interact locally and non locally using different coupling or resisting techniques based on distance, temperature, geometry etc. These take the form of inductance or capacitance for example.
Biofields do interact with other biofields.
What this means in simple terms is your biofield will have a physical reaction to another biofield that is within its broadcast range. Im sure we all know this to be true as when we hug someone, there can be an indescribable positive energy presence. Fields that share the same resonance will combine and expand, fields that have opposing resonance will resist and repel. Basic physics at play.
Sensing the environment
If the biofield presents both electric and magnetic fields, then this emanation will also naturally act to sense the environment to provide feedback. We know this to be true from simple intuitive clues as understanding time of day, direction, peoples moods and energy levels, health of animals and plants for example.
The biofield is in essence an informational field for ourselves and others, measuring the energy yield of the environment, calibrating against it and returning information back into the body as communication. It will feed our intuition, instinct, awareness and perceptions of our surroundings and interact with a whole host of environmental clues such as:
Electromagnetic presences (and lack of)
Charge condition and ionic charge in air ions
Available light wavelengths and strengths
Temperatures
Daytime electric field dominance present in sunlight
Night time magnetic field dominance from the earth
Electron charge status from the earth anode
One of the challenges here is our use of technology like holding a mobile phone impacts this very sense not only through distraction but also electromagnetically with disturbances in natural frequencies, ionic charge, artificial light energies etc.
Do manmade EMFs affect our biofields?
This is an important question. Do any of these unnatural EMFs we have in our homes and workplaces affect how our biofield interacts with nature and the universe?
From a physics angle, yes, a field of fluctuating magnitude (AC power, cell tower RF) will affect a lower power field just like a small magnet will get swallowed up by a big magnet. Stronger energies will compress or reflect our biofield just like solar radiation compresses the magnetic fields of the Earth. Reducing the reach of a biofield will lessen its sensing capabilities. If manmade EMFs are strong enough they will damage the very sources and pathways that make up our biofield and so lead to a diminishing essential life force.
It is interesting to think about it in these terms. How much unnatural EMF exposure over time can truely affect the biofield presence and what does that mean for both physical and metaphysical health?
I think we can distil all this down to simply recognising that a human body, a plant leaf or the dog next door has its own electromagnetic footprint that broadcasts out and waxes and wanes with daily life. It will interact with the environment, adjust either positively or negatively to the natural or unnatural stresses or forces it encounters, send communication outward and inward in order to navigate the best path it requires for its equilibrium.
And this leads to a simple observable trait we need to be reminded of, which is, that we have an innate interconnectedness to the natural energetic environment that is interrupted with technical modernity. It is a presence that needs to be nurtured, nourished and protected as it is an essential part of our lives and well being.
