Here are some quick and easy tips to start the process of reducing your EMF exposure. There are so many areas which contribute to our EMF footprints that we need to recognise it is sometimes challenging to understand everything all at once. So, use this as a checklist, and start the process now to learn about and reduce exposure to the unnatural electro magnetic fields that surround us.

Reduce radio frequency exposure

  • Manage the transmitters on your phone, turn off the ones you aren’t using at the time.

  • Avoid putting your cell phone by the side of your bed at night, leave it on charge in the kitchen or elsewhere.

  • Take all cell phone calls hands free and better still, put the phone down when on a call.

  • Consider, moving away from using home WiFi, instead install ethernet cables for computers and phones and turn off WiFi in the router settings. If this is not an option, consider..

  • Putting your WiFi router on a timer so that it turns off at night. If you do this, all other devices like TV’s, phones, laptops etc also all need turning off as they will be searching for the lost signal.

  • If you travel past or have to stop at traffic lights that have cell phone towers, consider alternative routes to avoid exposure from the transmitters.

  • Avoid making cell phone calls in a car and avoid connecting with Bluetooth.

  • All microwave ovens leak considerable levels of RF radiation. If you do use one, step away >10m where possible.

Reduce electric field exposure

  • Turn power off at the switchboard to areas of the house not in use.

  • Turn bedside lights off at the wall before sleeping.

  • Make sure your electric blanket is turned off at the wall before sleeping.

  • Take stock of what is plugged in to the side of your bed and also what is behind the wall on the other side. Turn off or remove anything plugged in.

  • Do not use a laptop on your legs especially when charging.

  • Avoid using any device while it is plugged in and charging.

  • Electric arm chairs like Lazy Boy have very high electric fields, turn off the power to these when sitting.

  • Remove and reposition any extension cords and multisockets that are under your bed or lounge seating. Create distance from these or turn off.

Reduce magnetic field exposure

  • If you use an induction hob, limit your time right in front of the appliance.

  • Electric underfloor heating has exceptionally high magnetic fields. Turn on to warm up and turn off when you want to enter the area. Avoid standing on the floor when the underfloor heating is turned on. (This does not apply to water heating systems).

  • Sleeping next to either a smart meter, switchboard or solar power inverter means high magnetic field exposure. If you can not move away from these, contact us for other solutions.

  • Charging electric cars generates high magnetic fields, keep you distance from the cabling, sockets and vehicle while charging.

  • Avoid walking under high voltage transmission lines and for the more sensitive, avoid walking under residential street level power lines.

  • Many appliances in the kitchen that have motors or heating elements will have a high magnetic field around them when in use. When turned on, move away to create distance from the field.
